The things Dreams and Visions are made of - she was called “Dot” Johnson at her place of employment but to most people in her neighborhood she was known as Dorothy Mae Johnson. She was known as a cheerleader for the community. One of her favorite sayings she constantly made to people who grew up in the neighborhood was, “If you don’t come back here to live, put something back into the neighborhood”. In 1987 she opened the Johnson’s Family Care Home catering to the elderly in the community understanding the importance of allowing them to remain in their communities. In May of 1996 she founded the (LSCDC) the Lower Sampson County Development Corporation.

“You don’t allow sickness to be a stumbling block. You allow sickness to be an enhancer…You don’t let anything stop you”.

Dot was diagnosed with cancer in 2002; however she never gave up, stating that “You don’t allow sickness to be a stumbling block. You allow sickness to be and enhancer…You don’t let anything stop you”. She passed March 28, 2004. And keeping her dream alive, The Lawson’s House, Inc. began in July 2004. Our mission was to open a residential treatment facility for youth were they would receive quality care in a family type environment. Many of the consumers we desired to serve were coming from dysfunctional home environments and needed the stability of a structured family environment. In October 2004 we opened our doors to out first consumers and began to live out our vision.

Our organization is dedicated to providing quality service to our consumers. Each consumer receives quality care and the respect and dignity they deserve. We are a residential treatment facility for children and adolescents ages ten through seventeen. We provide a structured living environment for those who have a primary diagnosis of mental illness or emotional disturbance and who may also have other disabilities and for whom removal for home is essential to facilitate treatment.

The Lawson’s House is home to some of the finest MH/DD/SAS services in the area. We began as a provider of Child Residential Services. We continue to provide this service to area youth who are in need of out of home placement. In addition, to Child Residential Services, The Lawson’s House is proud to announce the expansion of services to include Intensive In Home, Day Treatment, Therapeutic Foster Care, Community Support, Mental Health Outpatient Services (Clinical Assessments, Medication Management, Individual, Group, and Family Therapy), Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP) and Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT). The Lawson’s House is a private facility organized to provide outpatient services for persons with substance abuse problems and addictive disorders. The services include screening, assessments, referrals, consultation, and education and counseling with individuals, groups of clients, family members or other authorized agencies.

The facility utilizes therapeutic learning, counseling and growth experiences to achieve the objectives and goals of the client. The main modality used at this facility is Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy The Lawson’s House features experienced management and knowledgeable staff who are committed to providing quality person centered services.

Individuals receiving services for The Lawson’s House participate in traditional and non-traditional activities designed to enhance the quality of life and make life changes. We use a person centered approach which incorporates the individual’s natural support system. Since that time we have served a host of clients who have successfully completed some of our programs and have moved on to lead more beneficial lives.
